Switzerland is one of the two states that has a square flag, the other being Vatican City.
Switzerland is well known for their mountain range, the Swiss Alps, and one of the most famous mountains, the Matterhorn, is located there with an elevation of 14,692 feet.

While comparing these two countries, we can see that all of the factors that go into rank depend a lot on geography. The location of a country can positively or negatively affect that country and their general success. Lesotho, for example, being surrounded entirely by South Africa means that it’s ties with South Africa are the strongest, as well as South Africa dictating a lot of what Lesotho does. Since Lesotho is in southern Africa, they don’t have many close trade partners available, nor the resources to trade with anyone. Switzerland, however, is near the middle of Europe, and shares borders with 5 countries, making trade between these countries much easier. With a location like this, Switzerland is in the mix more, which allows stronger ties and a more diverse community. This shows that geography is a heavy factor of the success rate of a country.
